I have a social media video production company and we are growing, looking for high quality creative minds to join our team. Specifically, we are looking for “paper editors” in our company for short form vertical videos (SFVVs). Let me explain.
We currently operate our short form vertical video post production with a 2-step workflow :
1) Paper Edit
Upon receiving footage, the Paper Editor will access the footage and essentially piece together the video’s timestamps from the raw footage, so the next editor can add music, captions, effects, etc. Your role simple is to think through the video with the raw footage (using a program called Descript) and make sure that it flows, has a great hook, and is a strong piece of content for the client. Sometimes, there will be pre-production planning where you kind of know what the hook should be, sometimes there will be an idea of a topic but you will have to generate the final idea, and sometimes you will have to take raw footage and creatively turn it into a video. Again, in this step you are simply storyboarding the video so that the next person can create the edit.
2) Embellishment Edits
This is where another editor completes the video edit with all “embellishments.” This includes color grading, captions, effects, animations, etc.

Your responsibilities for a role like this will be as follows:
1) Review ALL footage from a shoot
2) Discuss what you’ve seen with the creative team
3) Complete paper edits
4) Pass off to Embellishment Editor
5) Make sure Embellishment Editor is understanding the vision of what you’re trying to accomplish
What I am looking for in a candidate:
1) Extremely good communication skills. It is important that you understand and are able to express creative ideas, at a level that makes it clear for all parties to understand. You will be operating as part of a team so it is important that you are a strong communicator.
2) Coachability, Hunger to grow. This is a role that is perfectly suited for someone who wants to learn how to work as part of a team, and excited to contribute toward the building of a growing social media company in the USA.
3) Strong editing skills! Self explanatory!
Compensation:
1) Starting off. You will be paid on a project basis. I will pay $15/video and $15 to review each batch of footage. You will be responsible for one client who will produce 10-15 videos per batch.
2) Adding load: You will continue this pay rate but receive 1 or 2 more clients depending on your reliability. This will give you a chance to do good work on a consistent basis.
3) Full time editor: Once your workload gets near full time hours, we will have a conversation where you can be guaranteed weekly pay for continuing to contribute to my company, and then will be presented with other growth opportunities.
